Quick Answer

There are three main paths: drugstore strips, one-hour in-office whitening, and professional custom take-home trays. For most patients, custom trays are the smartest investment because they are reusable and let you maintain your color for a low cost every year. Question: Which teeth whitening method is best?

“Which teeth whitening method is best: in-clinic whitening, take-home trays, or drugstore strips? Personally, I prefer the take home custom trays. There's three options really that you can do. There are the take home strips that you can buy from Shoppers. Unfortunately, they aren't very strong, so unless you have perfectly straight teeth, they don't tend to bleach well and they leave spots. The other two options are what we do professionally in office. So there's the in office whitening which is an hour in the chair. That's really good for people who have a wedding coming up or they're getting pictures done. It's more expensive. It's $350 plus tax and it can only be done once. And the results only last maybe a year or so. The better option is the custom trays. That's where we take impressions of your teeth and make custom molds. The trays are reusable, and you can continue to bleach for a small cost every year to maintain your color. If it's been a while since you had your last cleaning, feel free to reach out to book an appointment at (506) 871-5868 or online at www.brightwhitedh.ca.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Common follow-up questions about choosing the right teeth whitening method.

Usually not. Store-bought strips are weaker and don't adapt well to crooked or overlapping teeth, which can leave uneven spots. Custom trays are molded to your exact bite so the gel covers every surface evenly.

Custom trays are reusable. After the initial investment, you can buy affordable refill gel and touch up your smile every year for a small cost. That makes them more economical and flexible than a one-time in-office session.
